"Life ees hard"
-- my supervisor, upon yet another failure in our attempt to define the mechanism of the reaction between hydrogen and ethanol

I think I know why work is so depressing: my lab has no windows! It didn't really hit me until yesterday at 6 pm, when I walked outside and realized it had been raining the entire day without my even knowing it. My god, how sad. :P

Besides that, I really have nothing to complain about.

...

My reference material is written in German, my supervisor speaks awful English, I'm given virtually no direction, I have to stare at a computer screen for 7.5 hours a day (without surfing the internet), I think I'm getting carpal tunnels syndrome from all the typing, my supervisor calls me "hey," my work is guess and check, the light above my desk flickers on and off, my reference material is in German, my reference material is in German, my reference material is in German... this is ridiculous.

On the positive side: my desk is shoved off in a corner with my back facing the only opening, so it's very easy to nap while looking like I'm staring at the computer.

Plus, there's only four weeks left.

...

it's all in the attitude. :/
(wahhh!)

I'm sorry to hear about your sucky work atmosphere. :*(

If it makes you feel any better, my supervisor gives me no direction, way too many tasks to do and then leaves me alone to figure it all out on my own. I never get enough sleep at night so I'm dead tired and end up surfing the net instead of working so I'm screwed when he wants to see what I have done. Maybe I'll direct him to this reply because I make it from work. :D

No worries, soon you'll be here!111!1!zomg!11!!1oneone!1!!!

Well, I don't know how to disperse a file and they flip out at me when I don't know anything about the contracts at my work. Yay law? So, you're not the only one hating their internship.

This reply is kind of late...I thought of it after you posted but never got around to it. But better late than never, I say.

I had the same problem with developing carpal tunnel (maybe). One morning I woke up and my right wrist had this very unsettling tingly feeling, not the kind when you sleep on it, but almost painful. It was pretty frightening (I was picturing having to do surgery) so I skipped work that day. It went away the next day, but from then on whenever my wrist had even the slightest feeling like that I would stop using my right hand (for some reason, only that one hurt) and switch to hunt-and-peck with my left index finger.

Your comments on your reference material reminded me of the following scene from Me, Myself and Irene (I censored it just for you):

[in a police helicopter on the ground]
Shonte Jr.: Anybody know how to fly this **** thing?
Jamaal: Mother****er, it can't be that hard, it's just lift versus drag and rotation.
Lee Harvey: Yeah, man, get your head out your ***.
Shonte Jr.: It's not that, man, the controls are written in German, ya ***hole.
Lee Harvey: Mother****er, you speak German don't you?
Shonte Jr.: Mother****er, I can speak it, I ain't saying I can read the **** all that good.
Jamaal: [Grabs instruction book] You a mother****in' disgrace!

Well, I guess you have to see it to understand, b/c Jamaal starts reading the manual [written in German] and inserts some German swear words.
